Podcast: Telling My Story (Part I)
Its funny how in life we end up doing something or meeting someone in a way we never expected, only for it to be something we actually really need.
This happened to me November 2019, when I first met Jenni. It was my friend’s birthday. Pre-covid, the plan was to celebrate with a big group of people at a bar downtown. However, a few days before the celebration, the birthday girl invited me to the pre-bar festivities, being hosted by one of her longtime friends, some girl named “Jenni” who apparently lived in a beautiful loft in a grunge-y part of the city with her partner and a cat named Taco. I was told she was a content creator, and that was about it.
However, when the night came and I arrived at the address my friend had texted me, it became almost immediately obvious that Jenni was someone who I needed to meet. Our conversation continued all through the pre, carried on at the bar, and continued through messages even when she moved to Mexico a few months later.
Long story short, Jenni is a writer, podcaster, and avid mental health advocate. She converses with people and shares there stories of adversity and recovery, and I had— *have—- a story to share.
This post was meant to be shared over a year ago, closer to when we came together (virtually) to record the podcast. But life happened, and here we are, in 2022, just getting this out on the blog now. It may be a couple years ago at this point that I was on this podcast, but delving into the story of my eating disorder, and the journey of my recovery, it still rings true today.
Our conversation lasted much longer than either of us anticipated, and if it wasn’t for both of us honestly trying to keep it to the length of a podcast episode, we probably would’ve kept going through the night and into sunrise. So Part-II will be posted in my next blog.
